Well, I finally attended the famed Anime Expo
this year, and was very disappointed-
The con was the most poorly organized/run
convention I have ever attended- lines were hours
long, then people would cut in line right before
going in because security was lax- staff did not
know where events were being held and would say
"I don't know" instead of "I'll find out."
I was unable to participate in the masquerade
because one person could not find my paperwork,
and basically said the person who was supposed to
be in charge had gone home. The results of the
autograph/sketch raffles were suspicious (one guy
got 3 sketches in a row- from SMJ guest, DHY
[Hisashi Abe], FY guest Yu Watase)... also an
autograph from Mikimoto. Yet out of 6 tickets
for Yu Watase none of ours got a sketch or
autograph, and I only got Hisashi Abe's because
the group was so small. Even though Expo did
raffles for autographs, people that won sometimes
didn't get them because they cut off the lines!
I ran into Yu Watase 2 other times and security
would not let me ask for her autograph. They
even cancelled her open autograph session Sunday.
Hisashi Abe's autograph session was a highlight
of the trip for me though- I wore my Devil Hunter
Yohko costume for his panel, and he had his
picture taken with me, he liked it so well. :)
I was annoyed because the California humidity
made my hair super curly/frizzy (it was too long
to tuck under my yohko wig so I did the loopy
braids with my actual hair). He oohed and aaahed
over the Yohko cel I had him sign. :) I'll
update my site with the image soon.
The other cool thing was my Asuka plugsuit was a
huge success- I got my picture taken over 100
times, so again, if anyone got my pic please e-
mail me with it-
I missed out on the masquerade, as I said, but I
did win a hall award. I had fun on the trip, and
met some really nice people, but I would
definitely NOT recommend Expo as a convention! |
