When Miyazaki was still a starving artist, he
pitched his Laputa idea to Gainax, and later on
they decided to use it, but tweaked it.
Atlantis is more of a direct take on Nadia, IMHO,
because it takes place in the water, with the
crew of the sub and character designs as simple
rip-offs...among other thigns. Check the links I
gave and you'll see.
