If it *was* insured, you  **should** have 
opened it right in front of the post office worker 
and shown that the item was damaged.  

Then you need to file a claim. 

HOWEVER, if it is NOT insured...then the post 
office has nothing to do with it.  Also, if you 
didn't open it in front of them...I'm not sure if 
they will honor the insurance...
