True, moving more volume can allow a dealer to
lower margins and still make the same profit. But
we are dealing with a finite supply of product.
How many Deedlits are out there? How many OVA
Ryokos? If each dealer tried to move more and
more product at low prices....how long before the
product runs out? And how efficiently can they
even ORDER more product? They can't call a
factory and order 100,000 more Gundam Wing model
kits. No, it seems like they have to sift through
cel supplier's stock and pick each nice cel.
That's a lot of work.
No, I'd definitely have to say that selling
artwork lends itself to the "move less volume and
charge higher prices" model. Finite supply and
hand-picked stock demands it.
Also, you are correct in that ALL buyers must
boycott supposedly "high-priced" dealers for any
change to take affect. Problem is, prices keep
rising. As anime become more popular (and cel
supplies get thinner) cels are only going to be
more and more in demand. I think time is on the
dealers side.
I don't mean to be a bummer. I just think that
waiting too long will burn a collector in this
hobby. Get what you can now and see what happens
in the future.....

value!) ^_^ |
