>I was an anime fan before I was a cel collector
>and I still am. ^_~
I'll second this. . . I became a cel collector
long after I started watching animated shows. On
the other hand, I would love to see cels stay for
a different reason than collecting - I think
there are a *lot* of things that can only be
animated by hand. Even just coloring the things
on a computer can come out decent, but generally
it's very low visual quality (and sometimes
downright inexcusably lousy). I dislike animation
done entirely on the computer. . . It's blocky,
stiff and I can barely even bring myself to call
it animation.
Lain has been mentioned a number of times as a
place where computer animation worked, but while
I think that style of animation fit Lain's story,
I wouldn't want to see it very often. Too choppy,
too disconnected with itself. (Hence why it works
for Lain! ^_^) It was visually interesting, but
then things which are visually interesting aren't
always something attractive. If I hadn't liked
Lain's story - if I'd been watching for animation
alone - I would have tuned out by episode two.
Just my couple cents. ^_^
