It's interesting you say that because one thing
I've always thought (and said at least a couple
times, I think) the two cels I have of Sailor
Pluto aren't very stunning in quality. (And yes,
they were decently pricey, even if I got pretty
good deals on them.) I don't have any line fading
problems with them, but the xeroxed lines are
choppy here and there and the painted lines
aren't always quite where they should be. One
thing I've wondered is if the lackluster quality
wasn't maybe due to the speed at which they were
churning the thing out by that point - both my
cels are from later in the "life" of Sailor Moon
(one is obviously from the final season and the
other I've been told is from one of the movies).
But in general, after now having a chance to see
some other people's cels up close, I've come a
bit of the opinion that the quality is better in
the shorter series. . . And most of what I
actively collect is from the shorter series.
(Examples - Miyu TV: 26 episodes, Hameln: 25
episodes, Nightwalker: 12 episodes) I've started
to find myself shunning the cels from the huge -
not to mention more popular - series like Sailor
Moon (after seeing the Pluto cels, I abandoned my
intended hunt for a cel of Luna), Slayers
(although my Zelgadis cel is gorgeous, others
I've seen have not been), Ranma (these cels are
okay quality-wise, but it's more an issue of the
price on anything from a recognizable scene), and
so on. I would be interested to see some *first*
season cels from the big series - cels made
before they knew it would go so well - and
compare those to the later cels. . .
In any case, though, I have no intention to stop
collecting. ^_^ But if a certain series seems to
stiff me on quality in the cels, I'll take my
dollar somewhere else. ^_~
One last thing to mention. . . You'll see much
higher quality if you stick with A1End cels,
pans, held cels, and bank cels. . . If quality is
your pet peeve, seems you're best to steer clear
of cels from sequences with high levels of
motion. (Can anyone else here comment on quality
in respect to level of motion?) Studios seem to
be more careful with things that will be seen for
longer. ^_~
