I heard of collecting being refered to as a
gentle madness. It's possible that we're all
eccentrics on this matter. Here's a good quote:
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions,
perhaps it is because he hears a different
drummer. Let him step to the music which he
hears."
- Thoreau
None of my friends or relatives collect, but I
sort of appreciate this, because they keep me
from going overboard. They help me take a step
back from the situation.
As for the matter of pathology -- one of the
questions you have to ask yourself is: "Am I
doing this because it makes me happy? or am I
doing this because I have to." If it's simply a
compulsion, it's best to take a break from it, or
as my sister keeps on telling me: "You're going
to burn yourself out."
As for cels being an artform -- you can argue
this. My friends can appreciate my cels
aesthetically, although they're far from turning
into collectors. I basically take this attitude :
(Of course read "cels" for "adventure,"
and "collecting" for "the gypse life.")
"I would not know how to install a taste for
adventure in those who have not aquired it.
(Anyway, who can ever prove the necessity for the
gypsy life?")
