Well, I would like to make one comment here. The douga you're talking about that Anime Taro had for sale was for cels that would be well out of the price range of most people (multiple hundreds of dollars). I have a douga of Deedlit from OAV that is quite beautiful. The cel that matches the drawing would be in the $2000 range. In my mind, if you can pick up a pencil sketch of a character or scene you really like for $50-$100 when the matching cel would go for $500-$2500, then it's a pretty good deal. Soon collecting pencil sketches is going to be the way people collect anime, because there won't be production cels available. Look at Disney production art, for instance. Pencil sketches are about all anyone can much afford, even if the production cels /were/ available. With more and more studios switching to computer art, soon production cels will be a thing of the past like those little pictures you put like a lampshade on a pencil and twirl around. I think the real trend here is that prices are just going up on all kinds of anime art. It's depressing, but you either deal with it and pay the price, or just don't buy production art. Ryochan |
