Question for you about ethics of posting OTHER people's scans of cels I own (Sat Nov 2 03:06:07 2002 )

I'd like to know the opinion of you fine people
regarding an ethical question I have.

The scoop is that I own quite a few cels. A
number of people (including, I know, many people
who are reading this forum right now) have been
urging me to put a gallery online so that other
people can see my collection. I've finally
decided that I'd like to take your advice, and so
I'd like put up a gallery online.

But there is a problem.

Most of my cels, I bought from people on this
forum, or from YJP, or from eBay, or from Yann's
web site, or from Anime Chaos or Anime Asylum or
Taro or other Internet dealers, etc. When I did
this, I always downloaded the "for sale" cel
picture from the web site into my own cel records
folder. For, maybe, 1% of the cels I own, which
I bought at Otakon or at other "hands-on" venues,
I made my own scans. For all the rest, I have
swiped the scans from the "for sale" page on the
Internet.

(Confession: If I've bought cels from you, and
you used Java to disable the right-click on your
scans, you may not rest easily; I know how to
easily work around that trick, and so I have
always worked around that Java trick when I
bought a cel from you, and I swiped your scan and
downloaded it for my records).

If I re-scan all the cels I own, it will probably
be (many) months before I can put a gallery up
online. If I re-use the scans (from other
people) that I have, I think I could put the
gallery up months sooner.

My question is: is it OK for me to post in my
gallery, the scans of cels that now I own, but
the scans of which I swiped from YOU?

I really do want to do the Right Thing here,
especially with death-threats and banning and
other nonsense that's been going on lately....

Thanks for your thoughtful help!
