...I think there are stages to collecting.
There's the "newbie" stage (this is usually the
stage where people say they've bought a cel for
too much, to the extent they regret it),
the "psychotic buying frenzy/envious of others"
stage, and stages in between, but eventually your
get to a stage where you look at what you spent
on cels, a LUXURY item of the utmost degree, and
feel almost disgusted spending money on plastic.
After that, you kind of reconcile yourself...any
hobby has a stage like that, and you realize you
did it for enjoyment, and STILL get enjoyment
from what you did collect. However, the desire to
actively collect is perhaps not still there...for
me, I'm not into collecting so much anymore...I'm
just going to get my gallery up and leave it,
most likely...I like what I have, and I'll keep
it at that.
I've recently become extremely enamoured of
games...I was always a Nintendo girl. When I was
young, we had an Atari 2600 (Pitfall, man, oh
yeah...and anyone remember that Indiana Jones
game? Indy was composed of 6 pixels...and a 4
pixel whip) and an NES. Of course, I only got to
play the Atari, as my brothers hogged the NES.
When it finally got old and crappy, I got to play
it (oh, how I fondly recall the days of screaming
at a cartridge and blowing into it repeatedly). I
also had a GameBoy, which I was able to use
before the NES...my first game was Zelda: Link's
Awakening. After that, we never had any more
systems...my parents swore they would never buy
us any, we had to pay ourself, Being under 10, I
did not have that type of money.
So until last year, I was without console...sure,
I would visit friends, and my middle school years
were spent t Robin's house with her N64 and two
games, Mario Kart and Golden Eye. Or whenever I
saw my cousins I would hijack their SNES to play
Super Metroid. This was when I was introduced to
the joys of computers games...my favorites of all
time still being the Quest for Glory series from
Sierra. And LucasArts....Dark Forces, ah yes, so
crappy yet so fun. But even those I didn't have
much of. And being a loyal Nin-girl, with not
even enough money to afford THEIR systems, how
would I ever venture into SEGA land? So only now
am I learning the joys of Sonic (a game which I
secretly longed for when it came out) and systems
such as the Dreamcast.
...basically, this is getting to the point that I
got a PS2 last year, and am finally getting back
in the swing...and so, I'm totally into games
now. They take up my time and money, but not to a
ludicrous extent, like cels.
..and I'm prolly gonna buy an NES, so I can once
again play Megaman games (dude, MM3 was the BEST
game. Snakeman is TOTALLY my bitch).
...I think I forgot what my point was...
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
...anyone got an old NES they wanna sell me?
