What do "tolerance" and "being mean" have to do with each other? (Sat Mar 15 22:09:20 2003 )

Nothing against you, haruna, and while I larfed at
Yann's comment I probably wouldn't have said it
myself. But calling something like this a lack of
tolerance is one of the BIG
misconceptions/problems I see in the world (mainly
the USA) today.

Yann tolerates fancels.org. He hasn't banned her.
He may not like what she has to say (and it is
HIS right to state that opinion), but he respects
her right to say it. Which she has. Repeatedly.
He recently asked her to keep it on-topic, right?
I wouldn't exactly call that persecution.

I personally just ignore Shura-chan's posts most
of the time, as I know she likes to rant. But
I've traded e-mails with her, and she seems nice.
So my final comment doesn't relate specifically
to her.

I'm tired of people using "tolerance" as an excuse
to let bad behavior go entirely unpunished and
uncommented on. In the old days, you could call a
jerk and jerk---and not surprisingly, we had a lot
less of 'em!
