And look at a few other popular series. Want a
Rayearth cel of Hikaru, Fuu, or Umi? You
could buy two of 'em for what you'd pay for a
similar-quality Eagle. Sakura's video-stalker
girlfriend from CCS is pricey as heck,
but no more so than Yue or Clow. I just picked
up a two-pack of Gundam Wing girls on YJ
for 4000 yen (Dorothy and Relena), but lost a
single Wufei the night before when I bailed out
at 8000. And any Sailor Moon fan will
wince in pain at the prices requested for first-
season villainous bishies.

It's not really down to the gender of a
character, I think, but to their global
popularity... which is in turn down to the
nature of the characters themselves. The
characters you list -- Belldandy in particular --
are really some of the best characters in their
particular series. But think about Bel's little
mortal boyfriend. He's basically two-
dimensional in personality; hence I haven't seen
a lot of people prominently feature him on their
wishlists.

Ryoko is worth more than Tenchi, Lina is worth
more than Gourry, Quon and Mishima Reika cost
far more than Ayato, and Lime absolutely
trounces Otaru in the price department. On the
other hand, Dark Schneider is worth more than
Arshes Nei, Wolfwood's pricier than Milly or
Meryl, and Vicious will cost you more than Faye-
Faye any day of the week. Why? Because these
are the most intriguing, humorous, fascinating,
or compelling people in their respective shows.
They appeal to us on an emotional level which
has nothing to do with gender... the fact that
some of 'em are also sexy as hell only enhances
their sales appeal.

Yes, I do believe that general prices are skewed
somewhat towards girl cels because the fanboy
market has historically proven them to be good
sellers. However, that's only a small part of
the issue.

The problem you have isn't liking female
characters. It's liking good characters
who happen to be female. ^_^
