I find it a real shame when a cel and i's
genga/douga are seperated. Once that happens,
it's a near impossible to pair them up again and
I know as a collector, no matter how in need of
money, I never want to be the person responsible
for seperating the artwork I love and respect.
I have never bought a sequence where I was given
an exposure sheet (what anime cel collectors
know as timing sheets) and/or background for
several cels, but if I were and decided to sell
I'd most likely keep the layout with the end cel
or whatever cel is obviously the strongest.
As for the genga/douga, let's just say it's
always heartbreaking for me to see a sketch
deliberately seperated from its partner cel. As
a collector who admires and respects the artwork
first and foremost, it's something I personally
feel comes down to priorities and cel collecting
ethics. It may be financially justifiable to
break up a cel and its sketch, but that doesn't
make it right.
Darn good to see you were able to keep the cel
and layout together Jason. Chalk that one up as
one of the few "saves." :)
