70% anime studios use computers (Tue Apr 23 17:00:27 2002 )

From what I read in a Japanese newspaper last
year, it reported that about 70% of the anime
studios have switched to use digital ink and
paint instead of the traditional cel method. I
expect within a few more years, probably all
anime studios in Japan will use computers, no
more cels. The big studios like Madhouse,
Sunrise and AIC..etc are currently converting
from cels to computers. As you may have noticed,
most of their recent shows are made in CG.

Bottom line is you don't really need a list of
what new shows are made in cels or CG. The
reason is most current shows are indeed made in
CG only. By the way, CG is a broad term meaning
computer graphics which it includes 2D (digital
ink and paint) and 3D graphics. For shows like
One Piece, that's entirely 2D. For shows like
Vandread or Blue Submarine #6, that's a mixture
of 2D and 3D.
