It's so that the computers can see each other over 
a network.  Each system needs an individual name 
so that they can identify each other.  Hence my 
hubby's system has a name as well, and the one we 
use to run our entertainment system.  Everything's 
interconnected for the sake of moving files and 
running multiplayer games.
