Hello Shmecky,
As someone already pointed out, you need to talk
to the postmaster in your area. I really can't
urge you to do this enough.
I work for the post office as a carrier, and this
is HORRIBLE, and is a practice that could (and
SHOULD) get the carrier at the very least
reprimanded severely, if not dismissed. The PO
will not put up with this at all.
Where I live, my regular carrier is the best -
he's very friendly and handles my mail with care.
I've explained what it is I receive in those flat
packages and how valueable some/most of them are.
BUT - his sub stinks. :P He also leaves
packages on the porch, even the insured ones
you're SUPPOSED to sign for. I've complained
about him 2x now, and I think the second time did
the trick. I know how tough the job is. I put in
averages of 11 to 13 hours a day ... and we do
NOT get paid all those hours ;P We are paid on
evaluated times that our routes should be
optimally... so in otherwords, not at this time
of year. :P My route is only evaluated at 9.5
hours, so basically I work as much as 3 hours
free some days. But I do really love my job.
It distresses me to hear about this, because its
what I do for a living and I take pride in the
job I do, as do most postal workers. I have a
feeling the guy who is delivering for you now is
either a sub (Maybe your regular carrier is on
vacation or sick?) or else just very very new to
the post office. Either way, his practices need
to be stopped ASAP. If he's doing it to you, he's
doing it to others. Those insured packages are
HIS responsibility - if one is lost HE pays for
it. :P You also should ask your postmaster if
anyone signed one of those pink slips - and ask
to see it if he does. They keep those on record,
they're called a 3849.
Anyway, sorry to do some venting myself.. but
it's not a fun time to be working for the PO with
all the precautions we have to follow, and
possible hazards. :/
Hope it straightens out for you soon. |
