Between my personal experiences at the show, and
in speaking with a few other friends at the show
there is a wide range of feelings about the
show. Some people had a great time and got some
stuff that they're really happy with. Other
peoples were ready to go postal at some of the AX
staff for the way the autographs/panels were
handled.
The first few days there were some nice cels
floating around, Rick (anime link) had a lot of
really nice Vampire Hunter D cels for sale (among
other things ^^;;). There was one table that had
a bunch of Vampire Princess Miyu oversized/pan
cels for sale really cheap, but those all sold
the first day. I picked up a really pretty
vertical pan of Miyu w/background for $80 :)
Probably the highlight of the show for me was
going to the open autograph session where I got
to talk to Kawamoto and have him sign one of my
Golden Boy cels, when he saw some of my Golden
Boy gengas he started laughing. The translator
told me it reminded him of "some good old times",
and that he personally drew 2 of the 3 gengas
(from Golden Boy) that I had. I was really
bummed that I didn't get any sketches at the show
through their "system", but felt instantly picked
up as when Kawamoto told me that he drew those
gengas it was just like I'd gotten 2 sketches :)
