It also seems to depend on the cel. Different
studios will have slightly different inks they
use for the black lines. I have two cels framed -
one a cel of Clary from Violinist of Hameln and
the other a cel of Keith from Psychic Force. They
were framed identically and hung in places that
had the same amounts of light. I recently took
down the one of Keith because it began to fade.
On the other hand, the one of Clary shows *zero*
signs of fading AND it's been up for twice as
long as the one of Keith.
A further example. . . Sadly, it seems Psychic
Force cels are a bit more delicate than others in
the area of black lines. A number of my Psychic
Force cels which have seen *nothing* but a scan
and my cel book are beginning to inexplicably
fade in places. Not badly and not enough to
devalue them, but enough that *I* see it. ;_; It
can't be the conditions the cels are in, since I
keep them all together and have noted no other
problems. So it has to be the ink.
And by the way - the way I watched for the fading
was to take a *VERY* high resolution scan of each
cel before I hung it up and every month or so, I
would compare the scan to the cel. That way you
have a visual record of the cel's original
condition right in front of you. You don't have
to try and rely on what you think you remember it
looked like. I recommend this to *anyone* framing
a cel! I was very happy to have the reference so
I could catch the fading of my Keith cel before
it was too late!! O_O;;; And of course, now
that it has faded some, I'm happy I have the scan
at least. . . ~_~
(On a related topic. . . I was considering making
a copy of the cel so I can hang the copy and not
the original. But does anyone here know how one
might make a *sketch* from a cel? This cel didn't
come with a matching sketch - it's one of only
two Psychic Force cels I own that don't have one.)
Many Sharp Smiles,
--Drac (who misses having Keith watching over
her at the computer ;_;)
