Well, from what I know reading my mags...
The story is a little different from the TV series, and the
characters have somewhat different backgrounds. Hitomi's a 
slightly neurotic teen, Van the descendent of the White 
Dragon clan (I think, or army?) and Folken/Dilandau/etc. are 
part of the Black Dragon army. 

Allen, I agree, looks much more slick in the movie :D 
Millerna, believe it or not, is that red-headed ponytailed 
skimpily-clad chick. 
Folken, I agree, looks like Jareth from Labyrinth, and his 
chara design looks awful X.x that animal head on his belt...
Dilandau looks cool :D
Sora is the elf-eared woman in the heavy kimono that Folken 
was talking to, but I don't know what part she plays.
Merle-chan looks much more iroppoi ^_^

However, I haven't seen anything about Eriya and Naria =( 
but if Merle's in there, then...
