An answer, of sorts (open to better suggestions) (Wed Jun 28 06:09:48 2000 )

I moved away to college 3 years ago, and hide most of my
anime trinkets when my parents come to visit. The tapes
I usually just leave out, and say they are part of the
university's anime club (most of the tapes in my room
usually are anyway, I'm the president). My parents,
unfortunately, are also really nosey, so they like to read
my bank statements and credit card bills. I counter this
with pretty much only using paypal for some payments, and
pay for the rest with money orders. To keep the money
orders hidden, I deposit my paychecks myself, and
purposely keep some to set aside for an anime fund. My
parents recently discovered I collect cels at all, but
they've no idea how many I have, and they are a bit upset
I picked up such an expensive hobby (glad they don't know
the whole truth, heh ;) Unfortunately I had to let them in
on my little secret in order to pick up some cels at the
end of last school year. I had to send the things somewhere,
and didn't know my next address yet ~sigh~

Actually, I find letting my parents think that anime cels
are worth very little makes them much easier to deal with,
or at least that I paid little for them (note, only tell
them how much you paid on cheap cels, NEVER the expensive
ones)

If I am ever a parent, may I be more understanding with my
adult children than my parents are with me. I wonder if they
will ever treat me my age.

(still on the eternal male Slayers character hunt ;)
