Or it could be a case of the people who shell out big money for a scanner and take the time to scan things in get ticked with people who don't buy a scanner and/or are too lazy to scan their own things. (*VERY VERY TONGUE IN CHEEK GRIN*) I really like what you've put there. . . I think that IS an interesting twist to the issue. People today take a lot of art for granted simply because it's all over the place. And many people think that once they've seen a photo or scan of a piece of art, that is all there is to it - all there is to see. Myself, I don't believe in that. I'll reference pictures and such to aquire information, but when I want art, I want it sitting right in front of me. There is something incredible about seeing a piece of artwork in person that doesn't compare with a photo. A good example is my recent trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to see their Pharohs of the Sun exhibit. Some of the things there were things I'd seen a hundred times in pictures. . . But in no case was there a picture I'd seen which compared with the stunning vitality and "presence" of the original. Cels are as far from ancient as you can get where art is concerned, but the methods of reproduction (namely scanning) often leave an equal amount to be desired in comparison to the originals. Many is the time I see a cel in someone's gallery labeled with a statement such as: "This cel is so much more beautiful in real life." Those are the people who are on the same page with me. . . Many Sharp Smiles, --Drac (look! I remembered my return key!) |
