Re: Copywrites (Wed Oct 13 01:21:18 1999

To make things realy clear : I write a document, for example a webpage, that include text, pictures and others: - This document is automaticaly copyrighted and protected. - Whatever I have the right to publish the pictures I put in the document or not is a matter between myself and the copyright holder of the content of those picture. - But the pictures in themselve are part of my document and so others people can't take them without my consent. Sure, you may have problem proving that you are the author of the document. But that doesn't change anything. Sure, someone "stoling" your document or part of it may try to say that you didn't had the right to make those pictures in the first place. But that's a very poor defense at best. Now, in the case of anime picture and most specificaly of cels, several studio have an official policy about people using pictures of their produces. For example, AIC is granting the right to publish pictures under some conditions but they don't want sound files of opening songs or video files that they already made. (that was somewhere on their site) That mean that yes, they give you the right to make scans of your Tenchi cels and post them on your site. But no, other people don't have the right to take those pictures without your consent and reuse them. If someone does, you won't claim AIC copyright on Tenchi Muyo but your copyright on your website. That's the point some people seems to have problem to understand... Cheers, Yann Stettler |
