Oops: The board doesn't like the percent symbol. This line: (They charge 10Illegal seekore, should read: (They charge 10 percent more, A mat cutter should cost around $25 or so. Always cut on top of something else (such as a very clean cutting mat or a scrap piece of matboard. You can get a booklet that has mat board colors for probably a few dollars, and if you want, you can get a set of mat corners (what the custom framers have when you try to pick your mat colors. Of course, it's sort of expensive-- about $33 per set (There are a few different sets). Cutting your own moulding (for frames) is really expensive, since you'll need to get a chopper. They run around $1000 and up I think. So either stick to ready made frames or buy the frame from a custom frame store. A few other notes: How to cut a matboard: 1. Figure out what size frame you are using. 2. Mark the back of the matboard with a pencil and ruler. 3. Cut out the piece of matboard with a straight edge and ruler. 4. Calculate what size opening you want, and figure out what the border width will be. 5. Mark it on the back of the matboard with pencil, and be sure to extend the lines almost to the edge of the board. 6. Line up the metal straight edge along the line. 7. Keeping the mat cutter up against the straight edge, slowly engage the mat cutter and cut the mat. 8. Stop, rotate the mat, and cut the next edge. and so on. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. The only thing I'm not real sure about is what you should use to suspend your cel in the frame. I've been meaning to add a section about this to the cels guide, but I just haven't gotten around to it. -Chad Kawakami |
