Continued from pT 1
Doing all the genga for a TV episode can take a month.
Douga=These are the "pencil sketches" that cels are almost often
sold with. Douga are often done in south east asia by tracing
the genga and putting the color coding on. This takes a week
for 1 TV ep.(30?)
Coloring=cel painters are often overseas, or coloring is done
on a computer. (10 computer colorers, 20 painters maybe?)
Backgrounds=As soon as the layout is finished, companies get right
to work on doing backgrounds! Doing backgrounds is clearly the
most time-consuming process since you're creating a massive amount
of art. Many are watercolor/gauche/acrylic(if you have an acrylic
done BG-warning! Acrylic paint IS plastic and it will stick to a cel
like it was part of it!) paints. Chances of getting an acrylic
BG are rather rare since the watercolor paper they're done on has not
been primed. There are companies that specifically do backgrounds,
so I'm assuming the number of people on this is preatty darn
massive.
Overall, the average of making 1 TV episode is 3 months.
Chracter Designer(1 never seen 2 of em on 1 show)
E-Conte=storyboards, down to the cut#s, background #s
and the timing of sound FX and speech.(1)
Layout=I think this is the "background genga" I was referring to
below. What should be on the cel as opposed to the painted BG
is colored over. I think my YUA thing is from the layout.
The cel contents are crayoned over in yellow, the background is
given an number and the episode # & cut # is on the layout order.(?)
Genga=black and white drawings depicting what the cel would
have on it. There are also background genga too. I have one for
YUA-if I manage to get the staples out, I will scan it.(20?)
