There is other solutions than cable modem. Since
years, xDSL technologies allow very high speed
connexion over normal copper cables dedicated lines
(those used for phone). IDSL is 128Kbps both directions
while HDSL/VDSL can be up to 2Mbps. ADSL will give
you around 1Mbps in one direction and 4-6Mbps in the
other. Just have to find a provider that will accept
to do leased lines...
