Yes, knowledge is key. If you are going to make a purchase
albeit a small purchase, know something about it. Do a bit
of research if possible. Learn a little background about
what you are getting into. I've heard from well known cel
dealer's in Japan the same information about fakes that
Brian has posted here. If it doesnt take too much time,
understand the paint layering process as well by examining
your cels.
Overall, In my Evangelion cel collecting days, I was once
smacked in the head with a fake. Luckily I was able to get
back to the seller and the return was accepted and greatly
appreciated. Now, I dont fault the seller, I've known the
seller, bought a lot of cels from, and fully trust him.
I fault myself for being a bit to anxious to purchase the
cel, AND not doing my research. (I.E. try to do a scene
match-up with my VCR or ask the opinion of some seasoned
veterans at the time.)
Anywho, this whole string of messages have been very
educational as well as entertaining. If anybody has
learned anything from this, it should be:
1.) If you want to be respected, composure is a must.
2.) Legality issues deserve it's own forum. (^_^)
3.) In a close-knit community such as ours, your
credibility is very important. Don't blow it.
4.) If the majority as a whole doesn't approve, there must
be a damn good reason. Be receptive.
Signing off,
-Nick
P.S. Why can't we have brilliant conversation such as this
on our beloved JACML? I'd like to think people have things
to say besides "New Update..." ^_^ |
