Thanks all for attending (and ciaran deserves a
huge round of applause for being in charge under
less than ideal circumstances). We certainly made
the point that cel collecting ought to be a
regular part of the Otakon panel/workshop scene.
I too was hoping to do a swap or two and brought a
bunch with tentative price ranges attached. But
no one got into the swap mode. Maybe we all were a
little concerned about security in the room. I
was, until I realized that everyone there were
committed collectors with their own treasures.
Yes, I kept half an eye on my books, but that
didn't deter me from going over and ooing and
aaing over other treasures. And I didn't lose
anything (did check to see that Kitty Sakura was
still safe before I left, though).
Maybe next time we could set up a situation where
all the cel books are around a long table, and
everyone could circulate, while a couple of
volunteers could watch to make sure people weren't
slipping cels out of books etc. And maybe have
some basic rules set up in advance: flag cels
you'd be willing to swap, appx. price, wish list,
etc.
Just a thought for making something that was a
great idea even better in 2005! |
