Ugh! I hate it. I wish there were some better
alternative that the studios could have used
other than nasty tape. I hate the way it turns
brown and brittle, and leaves nasty marks on the
backgrounds and sticky residue on the cels.
The reason I'm posting this message is because I
just got an amazing and incredible cel that I
still can't believe I won. However, it's a tape
nightmare. It's an oversized, vertical pan,
multi-layer book cel - altogether it's three cel
layers and two layers of background stock. Some
of the tape is easily removable, espcially around
the top of the cel where there isn't any paint.
However, the worst is around the bottom of the
cel.
To attach two pieces of cel together, they used
the kind of tape that's only translucent, and
it's taped across the front and the back of the
cel. It looks like a big nasty white line across
the cel. If I remove the tape, I'll have to
replace it with something else - it's the only
thing holding the cel together. I could use more
clear tape, which has a very limited life span,
but I was hoping that someone on this forum might
have some better ideas.
Here's a partial scan of the bottom part of the
cel. Sorry, I won't post the full scan on this
forum right now because it's a major spoiler for
episode 26 of Legend of Galactic Heroes. So does
anyone have any advice?
