In my haste to gather up very nice and high-
end cels , I have to stop and seriously think:
Can I hold on to these, for the long-term, if I
decide to pass them on to my child, or
grandchild?
How long do these things hold up?
I know about all of the conservation issues
regarding exposure to light, smoke, heat and
humidity; paint oxidation, gas build up, etc. I
know about UV glass, and acid-free mats, etc.;
Use of archival materials, etc. But, given all of
these things...
How long will the paint hold up from
production cels on acetate anyway?
When will lines fade after all of this meticulous
protection is used. Does anyone have the
experience of seeing a pristine cel that is over
30 ,40, or even 50 years old, without the color-
loss or line fade?
Just to overstate:
Is it even possible to think that even if you kept
your cels in a "musuem", that you have a life-
long investment or "heirloom" with cels to
pass on?
Or are they just like smoke, doomed to vanish
into thin-air?
It would almost make more sense to buy
genga or reproduction cels if this is the case
(rhetorically speaking ^-^) Do we every really
own production cels forever? Honestly, are we
naive to think that we can?
Or will they just crumble to dust--ending their
lease on our pocket books--just leaving us
with a bunch of frames and mats to recycle on
some future auctions site?
But hold up!! ^-^
I guess theire is always restoration...^-^
What do you think?
