I don't have anything that cool. But I've always
loved animation. When I was little, I was in one
of the very high-class gift shops in Disneyworld
(where kids are glared at as if they're about to
break half the store 9_9). On the wall were two
framed production cels from Sleeping Beauty.
(Still one of my favorite animated pieces.)
I can still see them in my head, framed side by
side in the same frame -- one of Maleficent with
her raven perched on her staff, and the other of
her as the dragon with curls of fire all around.
I remember being amazed how *COLORFUL* they
were!! I knew I'd seen those pictures in the
movie, but the film's color had long dulled with
time. I asked a not-glaring store clerk about
them and she brought over a chair so I could see
them closer. She told me that all the movies were
made with pictures like those, painted on plastic.
I wanted the cels *BAD* but the price tag was
around $25,000. (I think. Maybe it was $250,000.
In any case, it was a LOT!) But the not-glaring
store clerk found me a book all about animation
and my mom got me that instead. ^_^
When I finally found anime, I immediately loved
it. I never once thought of looking for anime
cels since that $25,000 price tag had taught me
cels are like things you see in museums: Someone
owns them, but not normal people.
Then, frusterated by my inability to find a doll
of Sailor Pluto that *really* looked like her, I
decided to poke around online to see if I might
find a cel of her -- just to see how expensive
they were. (I expected to look at pretty pictures
and leave.) What I found instead were Mosquiton
OVA cels (this was before it's domestic release)
and got one for a complete pittance! I dug more
and discovered the *ENORMOUS* price difference
between anime cels and Disney cels! ((@_@))
That was the end of it. Over a year of collecting
later, I finally did get a cel of Sailor Pluto.
So here are both my first cel, and the first of
my two cels of Sailor Pluto. ^_^
Many Sharp Smiles,
