Well, to be honest, I'm keeping some b/c frankly,
I can't let them go. : P I suppose it doesn't
really make logical sense, but, as an example, I
have a Ferio cel that if I sold it, I would
probably cry for weeks over its departure. I'm
not interested in further increasing my
collection, though, so I guess you could say that
the ones I'm keeping are the cels that have made
me super happy (besides, the money has been spent
on those for years now, so it's not like I'm
blowing money on them by keeping them).
As for protecting them, I know that with cels,
like art posters and old maps (which I also
collected at one stage), there's nothing you can
do to ultimately stop them from deteriorating a
little. But that aside, I follow most basic
practices that collectors on the forum do. I
store all my cels in a big Itoya portfolio,
inside of their cel bags (and I usually have
separate bags for the sketches if I can manage
it). The ones I'm keeping will likely end up
getting framed when I have the money, and when I
do that, I'll get the archival paper, matting,
and the UV protectant glass (the same stuff I
used for an old map I framed).
The only thing I haven't done is change the cel
bags regularly, and that's b/c I didn't realize I
needed to. I know that cels can get stuck to
sketches over time, or layers stick together, but
there isn't all that much I can do to prevent
that short of putting cels and sketches in
separate bags--at least that I know of.
Don't worry, I'm not taking your post as a
flame. : P It's a logical question to ask,
given what I said earlier. So I guess to
conclude, I'm keeping the cels that I can't
really bear the thought of parting with--the ones
that have kept me in the hobby and made me the
happiest. The rest will go, b/c I don't care
about them as I should, and others will
appreciate them more, I believe. Does that seem
a little clearer?
Thanks for the question, and if you have any
advice for how I should frame the cels, or store
them better than I have been doing, I would
appreciate hearing it! ^_^
Ja ne!
