Thanks everyone for the advice!
I'll check out those stores.
Man, I'm new to this whole cel collecting thing,
but I didn't realize there's so much passion
against reproduction cel makers (which is NOT
something I'm trying to be). There must have
been some pretty bad apples to get everyone so
worked up.
I'm an aspiring mangaka who also likes doing
crafts for my own enjoyment, so drawing technique
is not an issue. I also do fine scale modeling
(military, mechas and figures), which is where I
get my anal attitude about being "realistic" and
therefore wanting to have exact color matching.
But for those that are worried, rest assured.
Although people have asked me to sell my various
crafts, I spend way too much time on them to make
it worthwhile to sell them... I like to make
them so that I can display them and admire my
creations. ;)
Making reproductions doesn't interest me. In
fine scale modeling, it's all about how
accurately you can reproduce the original, but if
it's about cels, as an artist I have no interest
in mocking another work of art. I want to make
some original compositions that aren't out there,
of shows that I liked as a kid, using the exact
same colors for "realism".
Haruna mentioned something interesting though,
saying that the studios' paints actually don't
last, so I'll try going with the other brands
listed. I'm still going to be picky about color
accuracy though, but not for the reasons
of "ripping people off".
Again, thanks for all the advice, and hopefully
I'll have something to show some day.
