All part of the hobby. There's one Slayers cel
from a few years back which still haunts me...
could have had it, decided that it was
overpriced (which it was), let it pass me by,
and only then started realizing exactly how much
I liked it.
That was the point where I realized that a cel's
value has nothing to do with the market and
everything to do with your own personal taste.
If I had the chance to go back and buy the
overpriced thing, I would -- it would be an
investment in my own happiness.
Now, with that said, the opposite holds just as
true. I also regret several cels that I HAVE
purchased, ironically enough for the same reason
that I regret not getting the one I mentioned
above. I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd
paid too much for each one, and that ate away at
my enjoyment of them.
As a result, my rule has become "buy something
because you love it... don't spend more than
it's worth to you... don't buy something just
because it's an "important" scene or a pivotal
character... if your toes don't curl at the idea
of having it, leave it for somebody else."
And, heh, as a side note, like Chip I also have
a folder titled "the ones that got away". We
must enjoy self-flagellation or something... |
