Just one more bit of information...

If the spam is actually coming from your account 
AOL will block you from logging in, call you to 
say spam is against their policy, and not let you 
back into your account until you have convinced 
them that someone hacked your password. 

This happened to someone very close to me, and if 
these things haven't happened by now, it's 
probably someone using your e-mail as a front.
