i don't see giving them to friends as continuing 
distributing after domestic release, really, but 
i guess that depends on who your friends are.  i 
have tons of vhs's that are fansubs that i keep 
to lend to people, and when i have the dvd's i 
usually give them away.  but my friends, if they 
like the series that i give them, will go out and 
buy the dvd, passing the tapes on to someone else 
again.

i think that's the best way to get people 
introduced to anime, is swapping with your 
friends.  some of my tapes also end up at college 
anime clubs, since they do viewings so often.  
that's probably the best way to get rid of them, 
because if the members like the anime viewing 
then they'll go get the dvds :).  just a 
suggestion,
