Re: I come back from mourning to see this....this is ridiculous (Thu Feb 26 05:22:57 2004 )
Lia aka Bakaneko [View profile ]

Well, if this isn't the 12 month old icing on
the cake....
I come back after a few days and I see this on
the board? (and not to mention the reply to the
post about the winners...)

You know, personally I think I am a very laid
back, well tempered person, with way more
patience than I should really have.

Seeing a post like this just really makes me
angry/pissed off.

I know you have no ill intentions towards me,
however seeing stuff like this posted really
makes me feel that you are ungreatful for the
extra effort I put forth for people to have fun.

Just to see someone mope and whine about not
winning 1st place is just awful. You did place
3rd however, in which I thought the piece
deserved and you did win a prize. but I guess
that isn't good enough for you. Who said I had
to have a 2nd or 3rd place at all? .... And
while I would like to reward everyone for their
hard work I just can't and I am sure people
understand this. If you read the contest rules,
it stated that it was based more on humor that
artistic ability, which made it open to people
who had a sense of humor but are afraid
sometimes to enter a contest like that, because
they think they are lacking in artistic ability.

I mean honestly, I could be putting my spare
time into other things such as my life, however
I had this contest to let others have fun. I
don't gain anything from this except a few
smiles, and a chance to make a couple people's
day a little bit brighter.

Just seeing crap like this makes me not want to
hold another contest again. I mean honestly, if
I enter a contest, I don't expect to win.... I
just wanna have fun and oogle at other peoples'
works and have the opportunity to even maybe
discuss the techniques they use. That is how I
learn and grow as an artist.

This is really a disappointment and if you are
looking for sympathy I will have to tell you,
you have none of mine whatsoever.

Being an artist takes time and patience and the
willingless to learn and make mistakes. And
while you think something is a masterpiece,
others may not, and you will have to accept that
as being an artist.

In response to one of your posts:

1) How can I know my cels have flaws if nobody
ever points them out, but only babbles mindless
praise all the fricken time?

You know what? if you want help, you may
certainly post on Req's or my forum. I give an
honest opinion and point out any flaws or strong
points I may see. And if I can;t help you, I am
certainly happy to give you links to other sites
that may be able to.

2) Improving is nice, but wastes materials.
Hence, I CANNOT afford practicing! Everything
MUST succeed at the first attempt.

Give me a break! While art is expensive, you can
always practice on newsprint which is like $3.95
for a 30 sheet pad and 99cents for a number 2
pencil. I am very sorry to tell you that most
people DO NOT succeed at the first attempt. When
I make custom designed art or cels, sometimes I
end up making the same thing about 20 times.

3) I did get motivated by criticism once, but
understand that the motivation is scarce when I
realize "I lost to a scribble - my skill is
below
scribbles".

I just refuse to even go there with this one.

4) After 4 years no progress = Hopeless

I've been drawing since I was 5 years old, and I
am no where NEAR where I want to be as an artist
mentlly/physically. The only way I can get there
is to learn more, be open minded and take
criticism from others about my work. if you
think you are going to be like the worlds best
artist in 4 years time, I am sorry but it
doesn't work that way. A lot of people who are
good artists draw day and night and practice and
have a willingness to learn, in which case from
I am seeing here you are not.

5) There are ppl better than me = I suck

There are always going to be people better than
other people at drawing. Some artists are great
at portraits while other are good with
animation. And even though though some of those
artists may be good at realism, they may have a
very tough time with animation. Variety is the
spice of life and it what makes art beautiful.
If you keep that attitude, you will go nowhere
as an artist.

Overall, I just have to say I am very tired of
seeing these types of threads from you. I will
still give you your prize, that is if you still
want it, but from the sounds of it you don't.
However, I am going to have to ask you from
refraining in entering another contest again.
Just seeing this poor sportsmanship just really
really makes me angry.... and maybe you should
think about other's feelings and the effort they
put forward for you to enjoy this contest before
you post nonsense like this, because as I say
again, this really makes me not want to hold
another contest and this just ruins it for
others.

A very angry fancel artist,

Lia
