i don't think that it's fair to say that people 
who like the anime that have been dubbed for 
american television aren't anime fans. i like all 
of them just about, the ones on cartoon network, 
anyways, but here's my reason. you ask me 
anything about sailor moon, dragon ball z or 
especially tenchi muyo or card captor sakura and 
i could tell you anything. but all of these shows 
i saw before they came on american television, 
through fan subs and original raw japanese 
versions, so that's why it is unfair to judge by 
what anime they know about...

as for knowing about anime, i think that a well 
rounded anime fan should be able to discuss a 
little bit about or just know the name of a lot 
of different anime. i've seen noir, but it's not 
one of my top favorites, so i wouldn't have much 
to say about it. just like if i asked people what 
green legend ran was, they wouldn't know what i 
was talking about, and that is definately on my 
favorite anime list.

i think that it's just a matter of taste as to 
what anime you like and like to talk about, so i 
wouldn't say that there are limits on what makes 
an anime fan...
