>Which series are the most collected in this
>hobby?
I dunno, seems like Dragonball is insane...There
seems to be collectors for everything.
> What series do you buy from because the cels are
>cheap & cute, cheap & pretty, etc....
I don't do that any more. I used to, but I think
as you figure out your focus, you get over that.
Cheap does not equal good if it's not from a show
you really, really like. I advise against buying
cels just because they're cheap- you'll end up
sitting on a big pile of disorganized junk!
>What do you look for in cels?
Line quality, favorite scenes, good composition.
Even within favorite scenes, some cels are
composed better than others. I try to avoid the
poorly composed cels, because they just feel
"halfass". I only want cels that feel like
quality disply pieces. I've taken to storing my
cels in gallery mats within archival bags, stored
in museum style photo boxes, and I don't want
"junk cels" in that expensive a setup. I also
avoid "amputee" cels, where it's obvious a table
was in front of a character, or they're sitting
but there's no seat, etc because I dislike the
incomplete feel of them. If you get picky like
this, it keeps you from going 100% poor overnight
(though I still spend too much! Always a cel
junkie!) I also stick to my very favorite shows, I
don't buy things just as "investments". I don't
allow myself to get into collecting *all* of my
favorite shows, because that would bankrupt me,
too. I'm working on the idea of moderation, but it
is a daily battle. I buy a lot less than I used
to. I'd rather have one excellent $100 cel than 20
halfass $5 cels.
>Do you buy from certain dealers because you know
>the money is supporting *them* and not another
>cel dealer who may have more stock than another
>dealer?
No. I look for good pricing on quality items that
I feel is a fair deal. I understand people need to
make a living, but it is also *very* obvious that
certain dealers gouge like crazy, so I don't
patronize them. I spend my money with kind, fair
people.
