Alrighty, this is my last topic on the matter
until I do another one, if I do
another one. I just want to get people's
reactions while the experience is still fresh.
From the little feedback I've received, plus my
own introspections, I've noticed two main
problems, and that's that people with more free
time & faster internet connections have a much
bigger advantage, and I'd like to figure out some
way to eliminate that problem if I do this again.
I've decided to divide the Scavenger Hunt options
into the 'Qualification Round' and
the 'Elimination Round'. Still with me? Here
goes:
Option 1: "List
Style"
This is what I call what we already did. I give
you a list, and you send me the urls of the cels
after you find them.
Pros:tested. works.
Cons:*really* big advantage to people with free
time 'n fast connections.
Option 2: "Seek & Find
Style"
In this version, I give ONE cel. When you find
the cel one someone's website, click it, and not
only will you find a bigger version of the
thumbnail, you'll also find a thumbnail of the
cel you have to find next. At the end of the
list, you'll get a secret email addy I've set up
that you send where you found all your cels to.
Pros: will take longer, since you have to
find the first cel before you go onto the second
cel etc. More of a challenge ^_^
Cons: You might happen upon the last cel by
accident while doing everyday browsing (which is
why I'd still require a list) or even worse, if a
site on the list goes down, you can't get past it
like you could with the bonus cel option. This
also includes people actually updating their
websites, instead of just saying 'sure, go ahead'
and that means a)less people will offer and b)
I'll have to get on everyone's back to actually
DO it.
Option 3: "Show
me..."
Everyone on the forum seems to love 'show me'
threads. So instead of a list of cels, I could
give a list of descriptions, like 'a cel with a
cat in it, a cel with someone getting hit by a
mallet, etc' Originality would count in this
one, and overlap (two people sending me the same
cels on their list) would lower their 'score'.
The people with the highest scores would then be
finalists.
Pros: Allows for a lot of originality, less of a
time constraint/connection constraint.
Cons: My mailbox will become flooded with the
amount of images sent (unless people send URLs)
and I will lose my email access and no one will
know who won.
I think a main
component of any of these is that I'll give a set
time period or a week to let people do this more
at leisure so slower people with fuller palettes
will be able to catch up. Therefore, I'll have
more winners, which means more people have a
chance to get pissed off if they don't get a
prize
