I'm sorry, I know it's a serious artistic 
question and it looks like Drac gave a very 
comprehensive answer, but the subject line just 
made me giggle.  There are so many clearly 
culturally Japanese anime characters running 
around with blue eyes and purple hair that the 
idea of trying to match a specific ethnic type 
hit me square on the funny bone. :)

But don't mind me.  I have a cold.  I'm probably 
feverish.  I'll go away now... :}
