Another recent but hopeless cel addict.
I was trying to explain to a friend of mine the
other day why I'm so involved with
anime "suddenly" (for the last year). As Peggy
said, it's the art. Not only is it just plain
fun to watch these amazing programs, it's
stimulated me to read about Japanese culture and
history, the history of animation, etc. I've
rediscovered the joy of sketching and newly
discovered the joy of creating a finished product
on the computer (with 2 little ones, we don't try
acrylic paints quite yet *grin*). I sit at my
desk all day humming along to music from FLCL and
FY and a bunch of other stuff. And I haven't had
such fun accumulating a collection since I was
into rocks back in grade school. Not only that,
but I'm learning software I would not otherwise
have learned, just in order to redesign the
gallery and make better pictures for myself :)
Actually, in a real sense, anime got me back to
school. I'm getting a doctorate in educational
technology in part because I NEED this vibrant,
fun, and often moving hobby in my life and the
technology helps fulfill it.
As far as "taking it to God" is concerned,
well...if that's your thing, then go for it. My
take on the situation is that there's always a
line between enjoying a passtime and letting it
take over your life, and any sort of self-
discovery, whether you chalk it up to a talk with
the Creator or a look in the mirror, is a good
thing.
(Sermon ends now.. :) )
