A close-up of the face is dramatic and
beautiful within the anime itself, most often
because the shot has already been set up
with a medium close-up or character
establishing shot.
But, as far as cel-collecting goes, I like getting
at least from the waist up because there is so
much emotion that is captured in the body
posture and the costume.
I mean, close-ups of faces don't actually have
too much more detail than a medium close-
up, because, face it, anime faces are
extremely simplified for ease of animation. I
mean, you don't have skin blemishes or small
freckles and hairs or whatever else you are
supposed to see in a real face. You just get a
big clean face.
So, to conclude my rambling, check out my
Pompoko cel below. If it had been a close-up
of Gonta's face, I wouldn't have bought it
because it would then be lacking those
dangling little thingies on Gonta's pal (lower
right)! |
