Sigh...perhaps it is because I don't collect many
of the super-popular competitive shows like DBZ and
Sailor Moon (I have a few SM), but I feel this
strange desire to at least pretend to give cel
people the benefit of the doubt until there is a
bit of evidence or a continuing pattern of
behavior.
The Kenshin auction I spoke of was ended because a
missing bidder returned (and my assumption of good
faith paid off for me). I had an auction ended for
me once because I had a matching layer to the cel
being sold and made a good but not extravagant
offer. Misa's anonymous poster jumped to the
conclusion that her cel for sale must have some
sort of undisclosed defect, but turned out to be
totally wrong.
Even in cases where the assumption of greed is
correct, I would argue that a polite email is more
effective than a rude post. Consider--I'm a greedy
seller who has ended an auction early for a big
offer. If someone makes a rude anonymous post I'll
laugh it off while counting my money. If, on the
other hand, someone emails me to say "Oh, I'm so
disappointed, I've been saving up for months and
was going to bid it all on this cel" I may start to
think "hmm, maybe if I'd let the auction run I
could have gotten more...perhaps I should let my
auctions take their chances". You never know....
Congrats on the Tsunami!
