Dear Ave,
Hi, well, I prefer to remove ALL tapes and staples
on cels whenever possible. If a cel is stapled
together, the damage is done already --;, so
removing them would not decrease the cel's value.
However, there is always the danger of the staples
rusting and leaving other permanent markings on
the cels.
As for tape, I'm slowly in the process of removing
all tape on all my cels. Unless the tape is
archival safe, tape might discolor the cel over
time ;_;, leaving a yellow stain where it once
was --;.
For cels with SEVERAL layers that need to stay in
a certain place in order to line up correctly
here's what I do which I think is the best
option =}. Put each layer into a SEPARATE cel
bag, then tape the cel layers (all safe in their
own bags) to one another in the proper place.
This way, the layers stay put PLUS they are NOT
in contact with the tape itself =D! If you have
several cel layers, this will make it look like a
cel bag sandwich =P though, so if you want to make
a scan of it, do it before you tuck everything in
their own bag. DO NOT STAPLE YOUR CELS IN ORDER
TO KEEP THEM ALIGNED PROPERLY >8(! Staples will
of course make lovely staple holes in your cel =b.
As for value of staple holes, I have no idea if it
will decrease the cel's value --;.
Now, as for framing cels with various layers, I
know that proper framers have archival safe tape
to keep naked cels and their layers in place =/,
but I have no idea how this will prevent the
layers from sticking to one another once they are
framed into place since I think putting cel bag
pieces in between the layers would make a layery
sandwich effect on your display --;!
Well, I hope this helps somewhat =}.
Sincerely,
Sonia |
