The past few weeks I've been swamped to say the
least, and had very little time to do more than
glance at this forum. I admit that I haven't had
time to read this whole thread, from what I have
has been interesting.
From some of the comments here, I wanted to
propose a "trap" I fell into with cel collecting
over the past few years, and share my experience
so hopefully no else makes the mistake.
I started my cel collecting almost 10 years ago.
As I was able to get more money I was able to
more and more (and better) cels. This was great
till I reached a plateau. I already had many
cels that I was quite happy with, and a sizeable
collection.
The mistake that I made was I started buying cels
for the sake of a "collection". This cel would
look good with the other ones from this series,
or this one would complement the other nicely.
The problem here was a lot of these cels I had
only meager interest in. For example, at one
time I had about 30 Tenchi cels, when all the
chips were down I've ended up keeping 5 of them
that I really really like, all the rest were for
the sake of a "collection" that looked good in a
cel book. Not necessarily cels that I had a
particular fondness to when looked at singlely.
Someone asked the question,"What makes a good
collection?". To that I've got 2 answers, 1.Who
cares what anyone else thinks and 2.It only
matters what you think and that you are happy.
Collecting cels for 'collecting' purposes (like
you want to collect cels of the Dragon Ball
Villians for example) is great and fun, just
collect them for yourself and not for anyone
elses sake.
Cheers,
