I think that three things had to do with it.  1) 
everyone was aware that it exsisted.  2) the 
seller was shipping internationally.  So people 
didn't have to use a bidding service so people 
could have a higher bid without the added cost.  
3)  I think that people just have a habit of 
getting caught up in the auction.  The person who 
got it was either a big totoro fan or just didn't 
know where to get another cel. Also there is just 
a possibility that the bidder again them just 
pushed the bid up so he/she would pay more.
