I hear sooooo much bad talk about cels of
characters with their eyes closed, their faces
not showing, far away shots, etc.....
but I got a question.... what makes a cel just
not good?
For instance, I have a cel from Mononoke Hime on
layaway right now at a dealer's place.. Its of
San nuzzling her face into Moro's fur.. you can't
see San's face, just the tip of her mask and her
cute lil' wolf ears on her mantle....Moro is
looking at her, eyes open....
Now, does this make it a "bad" cel? (I dont care
either way I LOVE IT no matter what!) but I'm
really curious.. I posted a cel of san awhile
back and got emails and a post saying it wasnt a
great cel cause her eyes were closed....Stephanie
Lostimolo posted her cel and someone said
something about her face not showing since shes
wearing a mask....
Do scenes matter at all? I love my san/moro cel
cause its such a great scene ....its around the
part where she says that she needs to go to Lord
Akoto (sp?) and help him cause he's blind.... its
emotional and beautiful.... so does the cel go
down in quality just because her face is not
showing and moro's is? Or is the cel good because
of the scene taking place and because of the
movie it is from?
I get this with my Ryoko cels as well. I can buy
a GREAT Ryoko cel, but still someone will make a
comment on how its not so great because its from
shin tenchi and shes wearing that saaaame outfit
yet again.... or its not so good because they've
seen others from the same sequence....
I'm not complaining, but I'm REALLY curious.. as
an animator, I tend to go for emotional cels.. or
cels showing an action more than just a perfect
face shot.... but as a cel collector, I want to
know more about how cels are rated.. I read an
FAQ awhile back on cel rating, but it seems
opinions are a bit different.. I'm just curious
to see what you collector's out there think..
Just different opinions on it:)
