Dear Forum,
Hi, again. I thought this would be an
interesting post for all you Disney fans out there
;). Well, recently, I broke down and signed up
for eBay's Disney auctions (mainly to bid on
Atlantis stuff) -_-, and I won some storybook art
=). The transaction went smoothly =D, but you
should see what I got O_O! I'm very surprised on
how Disney actually stores (and sends) their
artwork @_@!
The packaging was average as far as sending
artwork/cels goes =/. Compared to the animation
galleries I have bought from which package the
art in these indestructable boxes with tons of
cardboard layers inside to protect the art, the
packaging was average, consisting of just a
flattened box and matte.
Inside, apparently, the way the artwork was stored
in the archives was quite horrifying X(! The
storybook art consisted of a background and 2 cel
layers (one character painted cel and one cel with
just the character outlines) to give the artwork
a cartoon cel look. Everything was TAPED
together with either transparent tape X(, masking
tape, and only 2 pieces of actual archival tape
X(, d'oh! D'oh! D'oh! This includes the
background itself and a piece of tissue paper
marking the actual page size to be shot.
Moreover, there is nothing in between the painted
cel layer and the background X(, so a little
sticking has occured between the cel and the
background X(, enough to make the tiny white spots
in the background if you do separate the 2.
Like I said, I was quite shocked at seeing this
=(! I always thought Disney learned from the days
they washed cels off to reuse them and when they
gave away cels as souvenirs to visitors at
Disneyland that their artwork should be handled
and stored with care X(! ACK O_O!!!! I guess
it's still industrial waste X(!
Sincerely,
Sonia =O |
