I actually saw Last Unicorn in a theatre when it
was originally released. That would have been
around the early 80's I think.(I was just a wee lad
at the time.) I went and saw it with my older
sisters. I don't think anyone else was in the
theatre but us. I don't think it did very well in
America, but I can't remember exactly. Funny thing
is, I never considered it anime. I still don't. It
was a Rankin/Bass film if I remember correctly.
They were the guys that did those stop-action TV
specials in the 60's and 70's. You know, like
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and Santa Clause is
Coming to Town. I'm sure all of you already know
this, however. I do believe it was made by a
japanese team of animators. I would assume that's
why it gets lumped in with anime. I remember it
being a somewhat more mature story as well. Not
offensive, but not exactly kids stuff either. I can
see why it would appeal to the anime crowd.

I'm not sure why, but I can remember the movie very
vividly. I'm certain it's been at least ten years
since I last saw it. I'm positive it was released
on video. I'm sure it's just no longer available. I
would bet that if you checked out some video stores
with an older selection you would find it for rent.
