Some of you are going to disagree with me on
this one, but I can honestly tell you that ALL
fansub distros make something a profit (ok, not
ALL, I know of a few really large ones that do
their own subbing projects, etc, and they
generally LOOSE money) But your average
one/two-person distro who doesn't sub (ie
doesn't have to spend the money to buy sub
equipment, etc) is making a profit. I've done
a bit of "distro-ing" for friends (I don't want
to get into it full-time, so I usually just do
trades) and I can copy tapes and ship them for
about $2 a piece (if I'm doing 3 or more
tapes). Now, if you're factoring in the cost
of maintaining your 2 VCRs and maybe a little
bit for buying your masters (I don't agree with
this to a point, as you should like anime
enough to obtain your own masters without
wanting to pass the cost on... again, unless
your a huge distro like Kodocha) then that's
fine, but I still don't see how distros think
that $6 or $7 a tape is *at cost*. Maybe $4, I
could see... But I've only seen one distro that
actually charged that! Don't get me wrong, I
still pay about $5 or $6 (but no more!) for a
fansub, but I think it's a little fishy. (hence
I usually go through Kodocha, as they do a lot
of their own subbing and I know their masters
are of excellent quality)
Secondly, a lot of posts have been flying about
Last Unicorn cels. This movie looks really
interesting and my type of anime, but I haven't
seen it availible anywhere! I know it's old,
but is it one of those things that I had to be
aware of anime during the 70s/80s to have seen
or is it
